IRS is getting rid of private debt collectors which had access to records pertaining to your tax debt.
The justification for the private debt collectors in the first place had always been that private industry can work more efficiently than government. That’s usually true in most cases. However, in this instance, the office of the National Taxpayer Advocate reports that the third party bill collectors actually cost more in expense than they were able to collect.
The IRS will, of course, now have to hire more collectors of their own to go after those people who haven’t paid their back taxes. And that would be an increase in government and an increase in taxes on your hard earned paycheck.
If you owe money to the IRS and can’t pay, it’s tempting to not file. You probably figure, “Well, I can’t pay, so does it really matter whether or not I file?”
Yes, it does. The IRS has 2 penalties — failure to file and failure to pay. The former is a heavy-duty one, while the latter brings with it a lower rate of interest than your typical credit card.
Make sure you file on time even if you don’t have any money to pay. The IRS actually has an offer in compromise program where you can pay as you go if you’re financially stretched.
Are you a small business owner who is having trouble staying open? There’s always that temptation to not send the withholding you keep out of your employees’ checks and use it to keep your doors open. But this is never a smart move. Just file on time and get on a repayment plan.
But, I have a solution for this pain in the ass problem called the IRS. What is it?
It is called the Fair Tax Act. What is the Fair Tax? The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.
* Enables workers to keep their entire paychecks
* Enables retirees to keep their entire pensions
* Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic necessities
* Allows American products to compete fairly
* Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
* Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
* Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation
* Abolishes the IRS
Bill Archer, former head of House Ways and Means Committee did a survey on the fair tax. The survey was conducted among 500 European companies. One simple question was asked, ” What would you do if the U.S. installed the FairTax.” The responses where astounding. Four hundred said they would build their next plant here. The remaining one hundred said they would move their corporate headquarters here. My guess is that this would be just the tip of the iceberg as to what would follow. Our current tax code does the exact opposite. Product labels would contain the same foreign corporate names but the labels would also contain ” MADE IN THE U.S.A.”

How Obama Gets Things Done
Barack Obama .. he’s a do whatever you have to do to win kinda guy. Don’t you just love that about him? So … how does Obama plan to ram through his healthcare and energy schemes? After all, he doesn’t have a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Surely there’s something he can do. As a matter of fact, there is! He will use a procedural tactic that would only require 50 votes in order to pass the Senate. Here’s the deal. You include your health “reforms” in a budget reconciliation bill. These bills require only 50 votes to pass and no filibuster is permitted. Peter Orszag is the director of the Office of Management and Budget. Now he says that he would prefer that this budget reconciliation process not be used, but, after all, health care is crucial … and when you dealing with something so very important like this you may just have to use some awkward tactics. After all … as Orszag says, healthcare is “the key to our fiscal future.” More like the key to increased government dependency. Read the full story.
How To Not Make Money
I’ve been telling you that Barack Obama’s plans to tax the evil, filthy ugly rich is going to lead to an economic shutdown. At some point, the achievers are going to give up. They are going to get sick and tired of working hard to achieve and succeed and see their earned wealth be taken away by the point of a gun and given to someone to buy tire shine for the wheels on their house. Read the full story.
Fairness??? A Tax Code Based On Fairness?
Ya don’t say. But you knew what you were getting into when you voted for this guy. The American Idol, Entertainment Tonight, People Magazine YouTube crowd knowingly voted for a man who campaigned on the idea of our tax code being based on “fairness.” Or on “neighborliness.” Or “spreading the wealth around.” And it looks like Obama’s Treasury Secretary is of the same mindset. Read the full story.
The Mortgage Plan
Barack Obama released details of his plan to help homeowners avoid foreclosure. The good news is I have yet to find a provision that would allow bankruptcy judges to reduce the principal amount due under a mortgage loan. Maybe that’s been dumped … or maybe it comes later and under the radar. As it stands now mortgage modification will occur only if borrowers provide their most recent tax return and two pay stubs, as well as an “affidavit of financial hardship.” In the affidavit, they have to cite the reasons behind their financial woes, like losing a job or some drop in income. Oh and by the way, mortgages for single-family properties that are worth more than $729,750 are excluded from the program. The borrower will also have to show that they exhausted all remedies in personal negotiations with the lender before they will be allowed in the bankruptcy court. That great symbol of government education, Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California, refers to this process as “going through all that mess.” Read the full story.
The Latest From The Tax Cheat

Some interesting articles by John Stossel:
Real Jobs Create Wealth
So, President Obama got his stimulus bill. For a mere $787 billion, he has pledged to “save or create” 3.5 million jobs. That’s only $224,857 and change per job! (If I still have my job next year, will he take credit for saving it?)
But wait. Only 3.5 million jobs? Why so few? It’s not like creating jobs is difficult.
Egypt built more than 100 pyramids beginning sometime in the third millennium B.C. to house the corpses of the pharaohs and their significant others. Think of all the jobs that project created. I’ll bet the unemployment rate was something any pharaoh could have proudly campaigned for re-election on — if he faced election, that is. Pyramid-building is one heck of a public works project.
Its economic significance was not lost on that great advocate of full employment through public works, John Maynard Keynes. The British economist, so in vogue today, famously wrote in “The General Theory” (1936), “Pyramid-building, earthquakes, even wars, may serve to increase wealth.” Read the full story.
Obama the Spender Goes to Washington
How lucky we are to have Barack Obama as president. He’s already come up with a revolutionary idea that escaped his predecessors: He’s going to scour the budget for … “waste and inefficiency” “… go line by line through the federal budget in order to eliminate wasteful and ineffective programs.”
It’s astonishing that no one has thought of this before. Who knew programs could actually be eliminated just because they don’t work and waste taxpayers’ money?
And he’s making progress.
“[W]e have already identified $2 trillion in savings over the next decade.”
How will he do it? Here’s an example: “Agriculture Secretary [Tom] Vilsack is saving nearly $20 million with reforms to modernize programs and streamline bureaucracy.”
Amazing! “Modernize and streamline.” It is indeed a new day. Read the full story.
Eminent Domain Run Amok
Susette Kelo, now 52 years old, had hoped to stay in her little pink house forever. She bought her New London, Conn., home in 1997 and fell in love with the neighborhood.
Then she learned that the government can just take your property, if doing so will improve the common good of the community. City officials said Kelo would be “fairly compensated” but said she didn’t have a choice about whether or not she would sell. Some people would call this stealing, but it’s not. It’s called “eminent domain,” a legal term that means “supreme lordship.”
Traditionally, governments use eminent domain to clear space for highways or railroads. In New London, town officials wanted the space for private developers. Chris Riley, who in 2001 represented the New London Development Corp., said that construction would bring in more than 5,000 jobs and $12.5 million in new local taxes. The city hired lawyer Wesley Horton to defend the redevelopment plan. Read the full story.

The President’s budget highlights, released last week, took the ax to major subsidies to the oil and gas industry. Through the elimination of several tax breaks and royalty loopholes, the Administration tallied more than $30 billion in savings for U.S. taxpayers. The budget proposed repealing and adjusting oil and gas giveaways that included longstanding subsidies such as the passive loss exemption for oil and gas properties, and the percentage depletion allowance for oil and natural gas and the expensing of tangible drilling costs.

I did a post on this months ago about a carbon cap tax policy and folks it is soon going to be a real thing:
President Barack Obama is banking on a landmark carbon gas cap-and-trade system to both fight climate change and pump 80 billion dollars into the Treasury purse to fund renewable energy programs.
The innovative program — similar to one already in place in Europe — would rev up US efforts against global warming by reducing the output of carbon dioxide and other polluting gases, while raising direly-needed revenue.
The administration’s proposed program was part of a 3.55-trillion-dollar budget unveiled by the president Thursday, which outlines a cap-and-trade system which would limit emissions of greenhouse gases by manufacturers, and permit companies to trade the right to pollute to other manufacturers.
The program forces heavy polluters to buy credits from companies that pollute less, creating financial incentives to fight global warming.
Did you happen to catch the one line in there about “while raising direly-needed revenue.” So every time that you drive your car, turn on a light or run your air conditioner, you will be contributing your money to the big government spending ideas of Barack Obama and his band of liberal goons. Thanks America for voting for this “change”. Global warming is a damn hoax just to tax us and to give government more power. I’m all for renewable energy, anything to get away from foreign oil, but you don’t use the excuse of renewable energy to tax the shit out of people and companies. Read the full story.
