The Fair Tax Act Lower Gas Prices

Herman Cain update 2-10-2009

cain2Hello Intelligent Thinker!

As the legislative sausage called “Economic Stimulus” continues to move through Congress for approval, it still contains a lot more spending than incentives for businesses and workers.

That probably will not change as the legislation moves to conference between the Senate and the House, and the new estimate by the Congressional Budget Office of $838 billion will probably go up and not down.

As expected, Republican Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania voted with all the Democrats to advance the bill. I guess bi-partisan means three Republican votes in the Senate, and no Republican votes in the House as voted on last week.

President Obama and Senator Harry Reid still claim that it will create four million jobs, provide a tax cut for the middle class, and invest in America’s future.

The devil is in the details, and there are a lot of devils in this bill. Many of the detail devils we do not even know about yet, because it is moving so fast.

Because of all the media attention on the hundreds of billions of dollars in the “Stimulus Bill”, the public paid little attention to the $35 billion SCHIP (State Children’s Health Insurance Program) signed by President Obama. The amount is not the issue by Washington standards, but expanding the eligibility requirements to include adults and higher income families is the issue. It is supposed to be about covering children in low-income families, not about a back door approach to socialized medicine.

We have a whirlwind SCHIP bill passed into law, and a soon to be whirlwind “Stimulus Bill” that is a long way from the rhetoric of President Obama.

Next up on the Democrat controlled whirlwind agenda, the “Employee Free Choice Act”. My latest article (Card Check Lies) makes the case for replacing the words ‘free choice’ with ‘no choice’ in the title. You make the call.

Let’s get ready to HITM harder next time by continuing to build our membership.

Revisiting the Mortgage Crisis

As our economy trudges along, researchers are starting to look back and make sense of it all. One thing we know for sure .. it was the mortgage meltdown that led to this economic crisis. But researchers at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York are now saying that one of the main triggers of the mortgage meltdown was the 2005 bankruptcy reform act. Originally drafted in 1997 and pocket vetoed under President Clinton, it took until 2005 to get the darn thing passed, after years of lobbying from the credit card industry.  Read the full story.

We are Getting Closer to Government Healthcare

One step at a time, in the days leading up to an Obama presidency .. we are getting closer and closer to government healthcare in this country. The latest step is the House passage of the Children’s Health Insurance Plan bill (SCHIP). Now it’s off to the Senate for approval. Then it is off to Obama’s desk for him to sign once he is sworn in.  Read the full story.

Recession Lardassification

This statistic should astound you .. then again, if you have been to Disney World lately, maybe not. The number of American adults who are obese has surpassed the number of adults who are merely overweight. More than 34% of adults are considered obese. That is more than 72 million Americans. This is compared to 32.7% of adults who are just overweight. I’m not a genius, but that means that almost 70% of our population is made up of lardassess … blubber butts .. however you want to classify them.  Read the full story.

Wiretapping Ruled Legal…Any Outrage?

Just days before George Bush leaves office, the FISA court issued a major ruling. Now remember, FISA stands for Foreign Intelligence Secrecy Act. It is a secret court that expedites warrants for our intelligence agencies to help fight the war on terror. In a really rare public opinion from the court, it validated the “power of the president and Congress to wiretap international phone calls and intercept e-mail messages without a specific court order, even when Americans’ private communications may be involved.”   Read the full story.

$1.34 billion in Fed funding for DTV transition has been exhausted

January 8th, 2009 Comment On This Post

06-11-2008_dtv_converter-207x157Expect this kind of nonsense when we goto a nationalized healthcare system.  The government has run out of cash for converter box coupons. I’m sorry, but what cash does the government have anyways?  Come Feb. 17, converter boxes will be necessary for those who pick up their TV signal over the air. That’s the day when the majority of TV broadcasts switch from analog to digital. For now, coupon applicants are being put on a wait list should Congress allocate more money for the program.

And Americans want the government to take care of their healthcare when they can’t even get this right?  We don’t have the money for social security, medicare, medicaid and any other entitlement programs.   So what are you prepared to do if we have a nationalized healthcare system and then one day you get cancer and need treatment.  Well, the government is going to tell you to stick it up your ass because the treatment for cancer is to expensive and the fed’s don’t have the funds for it.  So now you don’t have the FREEDOM to goto a doctor and pay for your OWN treatment!

In other related news to government supported healthcare.  The Congress will be debating a children’s healthcare bill called SCHIP.  SCHIP was voted on twice but was vetoed both times.  Now we have a Democratic President so the circumstances are different.

This bill which is described by democrat lawmakers as “providing health insurance for children in families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to afford coverage.”   Well actually, they probably can’t afford healthcare because they bought to many luxury items like and  HDTV, huge car payments or a cell phone.  Remember that our definition of “poverty” in this country is becoming synonymous with the size of your flat screen TV, not your ability to obtain food and shelter or care for your OWN CHILDREN.

These politicians have a goal .. and that goal is to make you dependent on the government for health care. Once they have control of your health care, they have control of you.

Check out this article from the Wall Street Journal on how the government is going to give Medicaid a $100 billion bailout, here is a quick teaser for you:

Medicaid provides coverage to poor and disabled Americans, many of whom face the highest burden of chronic disease owing to cultural and socioeconomic challenges. The program beats being uninsured, but it often relegates the poor to inferior care.

Reimbursement rates are so low, and billing the program so complicated, that it is hard for internists like me to get beneficiaries access to specialized care or timely interventions. For my patients as well, many of whom are uneducated or don’t speak English, Medicaid is replete with paperwork, regulations and rejections that make the program hard to navigate.

Now Medicaid is to receive a bolus of federal money, probably as part of the fiscal stimulus plan — the figure whispered in Washington is $100 billion — with no obligation that the program does anything to reverse its decline.  Read the full story.
