Here come the carbon tax police

575262binI did a post on this months ago about a carbon cap tax policy and folks it is soon going to be a real thing:

President Barack Obama is banking on a landmark carbon gas cap-and-trade system to both fight climate change and pump 80 billion dollars into the Treasury purse to fund renewable energy programs.

The innovative program — similar to one already in place in Europe — would rev up US efforts against global warming by reducing the output of carbon dioxide and other polluting gases, while raising direly-needed revenue.

The administration’s proposed program was part of a 3.55-trillion-dollar budget unveiled by the president Thursday, which outlines a cap-and-trade system which would limit emissions of greenhouse gases by manufacturers, and permit companies to trade the right to pollute to other manufacturers.

The program forces heavy polluters to buy credits from companies that pollute less, creating financial incentives to fight global warming.

Did you happen to catch the one line in there about “while raising direly-needed revenue.”  So every time that you drive your car, turn on a light or run your air conditioner,  you will be contributing your money to the big government spending ideas of Barack Obama and his band of liberal goons.  Thanks America for voting for this “change”.  Global warming is a damn hoax just to tax us and to give government more power.  I’m all for renewable energy, anything to get away from foreign oil, but you don’t use the excuse of renewable energy to tax the shit out of people and companies.  Read the full  story.

One of the most needed infrastructure projects needed these days is site clean up to reclaim the millions of acres of land and water that have been polluted in the name of cheap energy. The EPA has tried to force energy companies to clean up after themselves for over 40 years but it has never worked–the company just files for bankruptcy and gets reborn under a new name and the public gets stuck with the costs of clean up. The Super Fund has never been funded well enough to actually do much clean up so the sites stay toxic for many years.

This Cap and Trade plan will force the big polluters to make their systems cleaner and it will provide the cash to employ people to do clean up at existing sites.

Anyone who is opposed to this type of social spending needs to look at their core beliefs–do you really think that is OK to build a business that profits by polluting? Is it OK to trust companies to act responsibly when it comes to environment verses profit? That is Capitalism gone insane! Is it OK to leave a Love Canal at the site of every industrial project? NO.

The industrial age came at a huge cost and since most companies have practiced corporate slash-and-burn rather than cleaning up their messes, it is now time for them to pay the costs.
