Let’s keep the jokes away from handicapped and disabled people
I’d like to make a comment on a Saturday Night Live sketch that has gotten massive media attention. The sketch was about New York Governor David Patterson who is legally blind. SNL’s Fred Armisen portrayed Paterson as a bumbling man who is completely unqualified.
Now, I have a heart about the size of a peanut, but for some reason I have a really big spot for people who are disabled or handicapped. I do not even have a family member who is disabled. But, people that don’t have a disability have no idea what it would be like to be blind, deaf, missing a limb, or an arm. They have no idea what it would be like to not be able to READ or HEAR MUSIC! Or having a family member help them everyday with taking a bath, getting in and out of bed or having to use a wheel chair. These people try to live as normal as a life as possible and to them it is a normal life. And I give them a lot of credit for handling their lives the way they do. Actually this is one of the reasons why I don’t believe in a god.
Let’s keep the jokes away from disabled and handicapped people.
