2010 Chevrolet Cruz 40 mpg automobile to go on sale in Europe next March
The 2010 Chevrolet Cruze is an upcoming compact car that General Motors plan to introduce around the world starting in 2009. The Cruze will be launched in the European market before anywhere else — by March. It will replace two unrelated cars, the Daewoo Lacetti— which is sold in badge-engineered variants as the Chevrolet Lacetti in Europe, the Chevrolet Optra in Mexico, and the Holden Viva in Australia and New Zealand — and, in 2010, the Chevrolet Cobalt sold in the United States and Canada.
According to GM, the Cruze “was developed by a global design and engineering team and will be built in multiple locations around the world” and is underpinned by the GM Delta II platform. Such locations include Bupyong, South Korea, St. Petersburg, Russia, and Lordstown, Ohio, where GM is investing more than $350 million.
We like the steeply sloping roofline and short rear deck, which Chevy says “brings coupelike proportions to a compact sedan.” Says Chief Designer Taewan Kim: “We wanted to take a big step forward, making a strong design statement for Chevrolet products around the world.”
The European Cruze will be available with two 4-cylinder gasoline engines and a turbodiesel. With variable valve timing on both the inlet and exhaust sides — the 1.6-liter gas engine makes 112 bhp and the 1.8-liter 140; the 2.0-liter turbodiesel has 150 bhp and a substantial 236 lb.-ft. of torque. Two transmissions are available: a 5-speed manual and a new 6-speed automatic.
The Cruze will be built in Ohio, and it will go on sale in June 2010 as a 2011 model. Although Chevy is mum about the subject, sources tell us the U.S. Cruze might use a 1.4-liter direct-injected turbocharged 4-cylinder that achieves 40 mpg on the highway.
Here is some more information on the Chevrolet Cruze from GM’s online media guide.

I wounder if everybody is like me, waiting for a car that gets 40 plus miles per gallon

With the shape that GM is in now it is obscenely ignorant of them to not release this car in North America at the same time as Europe. Americans like this styling and cars that get high mileage a is proven by Honda and Toyota. I guess they feel they have to support the Oil companies more then themselves. Oh “lets get 25 billion dollars from the Taxpayers it will be like selling a million cars but we won’t have to deliver a single one! and we can make our Management Bonuses!” Oh the joys of the stupid Government and Taxpayers

As usual Europe gets the good stuff…..we gets whats left and we get it late but we are suppossed to “buy American”. Went to a Chevy dealer recently to buy my wife a small SUV. The car we looked at had a crappy 3.4 made in China…..WTH? Whats American about that? If I want cheap junk made in China I will go to Wal-Mart…I dont expect to find it on a GM lot. Stop whinning about unfair advantages for “transplants” while you care more about the global market than the domestic market. Give us the good stuff and make it in America and maybe we will come back. Until then I will just go buy a Toyota. Better quality for the same price and wont depreciate near as much in a few years. My teenage daughter needs a car…lets see, Chevy Colbalt ( yuck ), Ford Focus ( overpriced ) or Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, Hmmmmm. Too bad the Cruze isnt available now. Just like the Big3, too little too late. Never visionary just reactionary. Guess she will get a Corolla for Christmas. I dont feel sorry for them. For too long they have taken advantage of the American consumer by shoving junk on us and we are supposed to smile and by it because we are “American” those days are over…get your collective acts together!!!

The reason that america gets cars last is simple they are the tightest scroogiest market in the world and there is little or no profit to be made
Im sure that a car company prefers to make 15 to 20 % margins in foreign markets that dont need to borrow 100% of the purchase price at at loss making interest rates
have you noticed that GM and ford performs much better everywhere else except north america?

The chevy cruz concept is headed in the right direction, however it has to many engine choices, and its gross weight, and other fit and finish parts are to be determind. I like the turbo diesel. I think most of us want a car that gets 40 mpg, and has a minimum horse power of 160, and minimum torque of at least 170 lbs per foot. I live in north america and on a very windy day you don’t want a car that just gets blown around. The 1.4 liter direct turbo motor sounds all to weak. Also put HID headlamps on the car as a standard feature. People love to see were their going at night time. I really think GM is going to screw up with this great concept. These pic show the chevy cruz to be a beautiful looking car, but enough smoke and mirrors.

GM is waking up and fast. The Cruz is yet another example of the superb automobiles GM is not either making for forecast to make. Take a look at the new 2010 Chevy Equinox for more clues as to where the General is going! Also, the new Camaro will drag everyone into their showrooms. Good work GM.

GM Wants handouts from US Taxpayers while they continue to send jobs out of the country with crap like the Aveo Avalanche Equinox HHR Impala just a few off the top of my head. While many foriegn companies building many models here and Union built too . So much for blamming the blue collar worker. . DONT GIVE BULL ITS ABOUT LABOR . TOP SELLING TOYOTAS UNION BUILT ARENT COMPLAINING!!! They are even looking at making the Prius here.Want money from this Country ? Was surprised Malibu made here seams they only advertise their imports like Aveo and HHR .I love my Malibu but many complain about the American cars that arent even built here. Hope they keep the Cobolt since will be looking for economy work car next year . If not Corolla union made here

As Americans, we need to buy the American made car! So if all of us go out and only buy the CRUZ and other models fully made in the USA, this may send a message to the idiots in Corporate. Also, we as Americans can’t buy cars, if we don’t have jobs! Bring back the work to the US, open up the plants again in Ohio and MI and all over the US. This is the best country in the world and has the best workers, give us our jobs back!!

As the neighbour to the north, Our GM stores out sell the imports day in and day out. GM has not just changed over night, products like the Cruz, Malibu, Traverse, Camaro, 2010 Equinox, are all vehicles that have been in plans and development for a few years long before the money problems that have become the worlds focus. In the 80’s Honda and Toyota were great cars and the focused all their advertizing on what JD POWERS said about them. Take a hard long look at what JD POWERS says now. North American cars are the ones that win now and Honda and Toyota try to put down what the reports now say. The resale value of toyota’s are falling every day as we the people realize that for what a dealer wants for a 4 year toyota you can buy a new North American car for the same price. The dealers have been making thousands on these old cars as they have so many people believing that it is still 1984. GM now and FOREVER

The cruze will be the car that pulls Chevy out of the toilet. Car and driver is estimating a 1.4L turbo gas engine with an expected 140 horsepower. I’ll take that with a 6 speed automatic. And its estimated to get in the high 30mpg’s? And it will probably cost as much as a cobalt? With that money left over, you can throw a good cold air intake on it and take good care of it, and you have got yourself a car that may get close to 150 hp (enough not to get stuck or blown around), AND gets close to 40 mpg hwy?
That sounds much better than our corolla.

I do not understand. Why do we have to wait another year for this car? As someone already said. We have poured so much of our taxpayer good money into Gm. Why do they launch it in Europe. Just does not make since, but all that money going to them does not either. Come move the date up and lets get this car out to the American people know. I am sure they want to make some more of those looser Cobalts at Lordstown OH. Come retool that plant and give us the Cruz Now.

The main reason you can’t get it here yet is that the engine (1.4 liter turbo) was going to be the new plant in Flint, Michigan, that they had to cancel due to lack of money to build the engine plant. Bankruptcy killed the new engine plant. The fall-back plan is to convert an existing plant to be able to build the engine, and they have to get the tooling up and running at Lordstown for building the car. Both are in serious jeopardy until the bankruptcy is done.
The turbo 1.4 liter will also burn E85 - flexfuel, and will put out superior horsepower- let’s all hope GM can pull off production, because if and when they do, this will be a great car.

The 1.4 liter turbo engine details are here:
http://www.motivemag.com/pub/news/GM_Announces_1_4-Liter_Turbo_for_Cruze_1_4.shtml
If you build it, they will come.
But you’ve got to be able to build it first.

Anyone else tired of the American car companies and workers “Buy American” and “Don’t put my flag on your foreign car” bumper stickers? They drive other American jobs overseas with the bulk of the parts they use being foreign made. Point out that there are foreign companies making cars in America using American labor and they say yes, but look where all the profits go. Meanwhile they get into their American car with Michelin tires and Toyota engine. I will put OUR flag on any car I wish.

GM and Ford have made many small cars, all over the world for decades. They are not sold here, because they can make far greater profits selling more expensive cars to us. They are now paying the price for their greed. They make small vans, that are extremely practical. Soon BYD and Tata will be here, and will cut our market share even more. Dodge will be selling Fiats made in Mexico.

Even people that know Johnny Cash’s music really well and know that he was married don’t really know that much about June Carter. So finding out about her really helped to inform my performance and to bring her to the front in a way that she has never been before.

That sucks I will be looking to buy a new car before April. I usually get GM, but I did not see anything I really wanted, but then I saw the CRUZ. So unless Gm works something out with me so that I can have a car until June. They won’t have my business.

Hey people listen up!! I sell G.M. cars in Michigan..were still here selling lots of car’s. Don’t even think about listening to the news..when have they ever said anything “positve”. We cannot keep Equoinox’s on the grounds, as soon as they come in they are sold, I’ve already lost 3 sales due to the fact G.M. cannot make them fast enough, (they are sold out nation wide). The really only way to get one is to order it, takes 6 to 8 weeks to get. Honda’s & Toyota’s are over priced and over stocked!!! And as for the Traverse, there are only 6 “09’s left in a 3 state area, and it’s not even 2010 yet!! So don’t be so eager to dupe G.M. Many happy motoring miles…..

8.5 million jobs lost in this country so how many people are anxious to buy a car they cannot afford ? Also how much does this Cruz cost? Wake up America we are still not out of the woods - jobs will create a better buying atmoosphere for everyone. I know I have had enough of this depressing world economy so lets get the hell moving on something positive now !
