Gov. Schwarzenegger lays off 10,000 state employees and 200,000 receive min. wage
California state government employees reacted to an executive order Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Thursday. It lays off more than 10,000 temporary, part-time and contract workers and temporarily pays as many as 200,000 employees the federal minimum wage of $6.55 an hour until an agreement on the overdue state budget is reached. Unions have challenged Schwarzenegger’s authority to do that.
Part of California’s budget crisis is from rapidly rising health care costs for the Medicaid program, called MediCal in California, which provides health care for the poor. The National Governors Association said many states have responded by cutting Medicaid benefits and dropping people from the program. And these costs will go up as middle-class elderly sell their houses and other assets to join the program to cover nursing home costs.
Sorry about your luck California, but you deserve it. Socialism and trying to tax the hell out of businesses to pay for your irresponsible asses doesn’t work. BOO HOO! Cry me a river!

Haven’t we already learned about socialism and communism? Do we really need to revisit these failed schemes? Enriching the elite at the expense of the poor is the primary complaint about government policy already. To enshrine that would be crazy. The landscape is changing. I hope people can adapt.

The California budget is a mess; no group wants to give ground on cuts and powerful unions like the Nurses and Teachers gave Schwarzenegger a beating in the last election, so he has few options. If they raise taxes, I doubt that the economy will be able to create jobs for the growing population.
