The Army discriminated against an atheist soldier
A US Army soldier is suing the military because he says that he was being discriminated against for being an atheist. Army Spc. Jeremy Hall says that he was threatened by other troops and denied promotions because he was told that if he would not pray with the troops then he would not make a good leader.
This is why I believe that religion is bad for people. People’s minds get so warped that they can’t accept anyone who does not share the same beliefs that they do. Here is a guy risking his life to serve this country and fight in Iraq who has to fear getting attacked by fellow soldiers as much as Iraqis. Something is very wrong here. Stop pushing religion on people who don’t want to be a part of it.
The Bush administration has used fear as a tactic to get us to believe that this war is a good thing and that Muslims are evil. But it is not just the brown skinned Muslims in the middle east we should worry about. It is the extremist Christians, John and Jane the shiny white next door neighbors who are trying to push the Christian religion into our lives. It’s those same people who murder doctors that are performing abortions. It’s those same people who raise their children to be unaccepting of other people and other beliefs. Clearly the military is becoming a religious organization and pretty soon we will see more and more laws being passed that are based on some sort of religious belief.
One of the founding principles of this country is religious freedom. People settled here to escape religious persecution but now we have become the persecutors and we are moving more and more towards adopting Christianity as the national religion.
What I am glad to see in this story is that Jeremy Hall is not seeking any compensation. It’s not about money, it’s about FREEDOM. I congratulate him for staying strong and sticking to his convictions. He is truly someone who fights for freedom.
