Why Congressional Term Limits?
A Constitutional amendment limiting congressional terms is vital to our nation’s future.
We face the third millennium with a bankrupt country and an evaporating dollar. This is the result of years of irresponsible congressional spending—the buying of our votes with our children’s money. We cannot survive with the gang of self-seeking big spenders we have in office now. The Congress we have is dysfunctional.

I disagree. Term limits for any office is a bad idea. Use Bush as an example. A lame duck who is still destroying th fabric of the country. It is doubtful that he would act so cavalier if he knew he could run again for president. He has nothing to lose by his actions with his term limit in place, but if there was no term limit, he would act more to the public’s will, as he would want to stay on their good side to get re-elected.
No, the sure thing to make a better congress is proportional representation. Gerrymandering is the reason why congressmen rarely lose their seats. When the redistricting farce ends, only then will we be truly represented.

I agree that term limits are a bad idea, but that is not a good example. Bush was awfully cavalier in his first term, when he was planning on running for reelection.

I support limiting Congressional terms 100%. This is the only solution to the problems in Washington. Most Senators and Congressmen come to Washington hoping to change the system and do right by the people. They soon learn that unless you “play ball” with the old guards you won’t get anything done. So they have to spend years working their way up in the power structure. By the time they get there, they have been corrupted like all the others. No Congressman or Senator has ever retired a poor man. Furthermore, because Congressmen have to run for re-election every two years, in this day and age they actually start running for office the minute they win the first election. They are therefore not motivated in the slightest to do the right thing, to do the hard things, to do what is best for the country. We need people in Washington who are motivated by what is right for the country, not by what will get them re-elected. The only way to do that is to limit the time they can serve. Make it impossible to garner the kind of power and money Congressmen and Senators now are able to gain. Limited terms will greatly reduce bribery, corruption, and re-election in-attention.

I am a STRONG supporter of term limits at the national level.
It seems to me that this can, practically speaking, if at all, be accomplished through an amendment to the US Constitution. Additionally, that process would need to take the route of a constitutional convention sponsored by the requisite number of states, etc.
I would be very interested in anyone’s knowledge of a grass roots movement in this regard, or comments and opinions about the process etc.
Thanks.
